Welcome Message from Barry Randall

Barry Randall is the Chief Investment Officer of Crabtree Asset Management and the portfolio manager of the Crabtree Technology and Small Cap Growth portfolios. He began his professional financial services career in 1993 at Southcoast Capital Corp. in Austin Texas. In 29 years in the investments industry, he has risen from junior sell-side analyst to senior portfolio manager, personally responsible for public and private portfolios of as much as $650 million in assets.

Throughout his career, Mr. Randall has focused on the technology sector. He brings extensive qualitative and quantitative skills and tools to the task of selecting suitable investments in the technology area. Career highlights include his tenure as Portfolio Manager of the First American Technology Fund at USBancorp Asset Management, where he lifted the 1-, 2, and 3-year Lipper percentiles for that fund from 89, 89 and 93, respectively, to 19, 31 and 37. This occurred during his 2002-2005 tenure, which was among the most volatile periods in stock market history.

Following his success at USBancorp Asset Management, Mr. Randall joined MTB Investment Advisors in Baltimore, where in his first year as portfolio manager of the MTB Small Cap Growth Fund, he earned a Wall Street Journal Category King award by finishing in the 3rd percentile of all 250 small cap growth managers in 2006. He accomplished both of these performances using his proprietary quantitative stock selection model, which forms the basis of the stock selection engine on which The Crabtree Technology and Small Cap Growth portfolios rely for their investments.

Mr. Randall studied mathematics and computer science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, from which he graduated in 1986. After a six year career as a professional computer programmer, Mr. Randall earned an MBA at the University of Texas at Austin in 1993. The UT – Austin “McCombs” Graduate School of Business is consistently ranked among the top 20 graduate business programs in the United States by The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek and U. S. News and World Report. Mr. Randall also has passed the NASD Series 7, Series 63, and Series 65 examinations. He is registered with FINRA and the State of Minnesota as a registered Investment Advisor Representative. A native of Quincy, Massachusetts, Mr. Randall now lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota with his wife and two children. His outside interests include spending time with his family, bicycling and flying. He is an instrument-rated, Commercial-licensed pilot with over 600 hours as Pilot-in-Command.

In his spare time, Mr. Randall volunteers with Reading Partners, an in-school tutoring program designed to help elementary school-aged students achieve grade-level or better reading proficiency. Additionally, he is a registered mentor with FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and helps Washington Technology Magnet School in Saint Paul develop and prepare their robot for FRC’s annual competition schedule.
